Having a friend of the opposite gender means you get to see life through a whole new set of perspectives. They can give you insight on how they're thinking differs from yours. 
You will learn about how girls feel and how to properly talk to girls. 
Being a friend she'll not ditch you and all. She'll be protective and never lets you feel down. You both will feel comfortable in each others company. 
She can also help you getting closer to the person you like, and they will tell you how to act in front of other girls, so you won't look strange. 
If she's upset about something, she'll tell you right away, and won't avoid you or something. Most importantly, when you're with your friend, you don't have to worry about how you're looking or what you're wearing. She'll provide you best feedback. Also they are best critics for your acts and they will give better ideas or suggestions. 
Girls are always better listeners for your doubts, stories, thoughts, problems etc. If there's tough time in your life, she will never let you feel alone, she'll keep pushing you till the time you achieve your goal. They will stand by you through heaven and hell and across all the seven seas just to see you smiling.
